Hey there everyone! So we haven’t done a post about ourselves since we started this page and we have grown so much over the last 2 years, we thought it might be time for a introduction and some EXCITING news! So Jay and I have been together for the last 7 years and we have been fortunate enough to work together and share our passion! Tourism is our trade and it allows us to spend every minute in the bushveld, learning from nature, enjoying its beauty and teaching others! Jay has been a Trails guide for 15 years and I have worked within many different lodges and camps in many different areas and about 2 years ago now I completed my guiding qualification. We have spent the last year freelancing and doing walking trails out of different camps. We have also used this time to think about what we want for our future. And so! Jay rescued a Black Impala lamb as mom was taken by a predator. We first saw the lamb running in front of our house early morning and then again later in the afternoon. We set out on foot in the direction it kept on heading to and found its mother’s carcass. About 10 of us set out on foot to find it and about an hour later and a good chase Jay was able to catch it. Brit was busy in the garden yesterday afternoon and heard the birds making quite the commotion. Often when birds feel threatened they will sit near by and harass the predator by chirping and dive bombing. Brit thought it was a snake but upon inspection she frightened another bird from the tree. DO NOT FEED THE ANIMALS. Just a reminder for those traveling to Kruger and any other nature reserve to not feed the animals. Southern Ground Hornbills are one of our favourite birds and being endangered, they are a rare sighting in the Kruger. We were so excited to see them walking down the road towards us, so we turned our vehicle off and were hoping that they would stay on the road and walk right past us. Well there was no worry there as when they spotted us, they came running towards the vehicle. Our sighting was then slightly ruined as we realized they were begging for food, hanging around our vehicle and even using their very large and sturdy beaks to peck at our front door. Our plan for our morning drive was to head out and track the Wild Dogs. Little did we know they were on their way to us. As we headed out from the lodge we heard the Wild Dogs and Hyena squabbling, right away we knew they had made a kill and that the dogs were trying to keep the Hyena at bay. We drove towards the calls but were too late the Hyena succeeded. While watching the Hyena we saw the dogs, they were on the hunt again so we followed and so did the Hyena.
